Come together to grieve, honor, and celebrate. The Opening General Session takes place on Monday, October 11 and offers a variety of speakers and special events that will inspire you:

  • LED Talks 
These short, powerful talks designed to Lead, Engage, and Discover, will focus on stories of COVID-19 from different perspectives within long term care. AHCA Board Chair Debbie Meade and NCAL Board Chair Helen Crunk are two of the speakers who will share their personal experiences during the pandemic. Additional speakers will be announced shortly.

  • 2021 McKnight Prize for Healthcare Outbreak Heroes 
AHCA is proud to host the presentation of the 2021 McKnight Prize for Healthcare Outbreak Heroes​ awarded by the CDC Foundation and the Evelyn and Thomas McKnight Family Fund for Patient Safety. The award recognizes those who serve and protect patients from harm related to health care outbreaks. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, nursing homes were one of the hardest hit sectors across all of health care. Nursing home staff went above and beyond, setting their fears aside to care for and protect their residents in the face of great personal risk. Join us as we honor and recognize you and your heroic colleagues. 

  • Association Updates 
Mark Parkinson, AHCA/NCAL President & CEO, and Scott Tittle, NCAL Executive Director, will the discuss the impact of the past year and provide updates on what lies ahead.

The Closing General Session is Wednesday, October 13 and will focus on resilience and the future. Speakers like AHCA Board Vice Chair Phil Fogg will share moving personal stories and how they are working to move forward with strength and grace.

In addition, AHCA/NCAL will present the Mary K. Ousley Champion of Quality Award and the Jan Thayer Pioneer Award.
