WASHINGTON, D.C. - The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), representing approximately 15,000 nursing homes and long term care facilities across the country that provide care to approximately five million people each year, released the following statement regarding the United States House Committee on Ways & Means Health Subcommittee Hearing: “After the Hospital: Ensuring Access to Quality Post-Acute Care.”
The statement is attributable to Clif Porter, President and CEO of AHCA/NCAL:
"We thank Chairman Buchanan, Ranking Member Doggett, and the Members of the Subcommittee on Health for the opportunity to offer our input on this important discussion. As the elderly population grows and their health care needs increase, strengthening access to post-acute care is more urgent than ever before. Skilled nursing facilities play a pivotal role in meeting these needs, and there are key areas where access can be improved—such as enhancing care coordination, strengthening Medicare Advantage, tackling workforce shortages, and preventing cuts to Medicaid. We need to look at the bigger picture and the confluence of factors that contribute to our providers’ ability to maintain access, enhance quality care, and invest in improvements. We look forward to working with the Way and Means Committee and Congress to advance solutions that ensure our nation’s seniors can access the high-quality, post-acute care they need."
