House Passes the Senate’s Budget Resolution

Legislative; Regulations

The U.S. House of Representatives last week passed the Senate’s latest version of a budget resolution to unlock the budget reconciliation process. Both chambers had to agree on a resolution before the process could get underway. The resolution is only a blueprint and gives broad instructions to relevant committees. The specific details of the final package will be crafted through legislation to be determined by those committees. Of interest to long term care, the Senate Finance and the House Energy and Commerce Committees both oversee Medicaid.

This is another early step in a long reconciliation process. But as the committees begin to draw up the details over the coming weeks, we will work to ensure Medicaid is protected for those we serve.

How You Can Help

The House and Senate are breaking for two weeks for their Easter recess. This is the PERFECT time to request your members of Congress come tour your facility and talk to them about how important Medicaid is for your residents. Meanwhile, we will continue to coordinate meetings on the Hill with key members of Congress.

If you’d like to get involved, please contact AHCA/NCAL’s Government Relations Team: GR@ahca.org, and be sure to register for Congressional Briefing to meet with your members of Congress in DC this coming June.

President Trump Revises Tariffs Policy

President Trump announced he would pause his reciprocal tariffs for most countries for the next 90 days, except for China. He is raising tariffs on China after the country announced retaliation on the U.S. Tariff levels on other countries will be brought down to a universal 10%, except for Canada and Mexico, which have no new tariffs or changes. The pause will not impact sectoral tariffs, which are coming soon for goods like pharmaceuticals, according to the Administration.
