AHCA has been informed about a research study that may interest members called IN-HOME: Identifying Needs to Help Older adults Maintain Everyday community living. Researchers at New York University (NYU) are examining why individuals with dementia seek long term care. They are looking for 10 nursing homes to help identify 15 residents and their family members who have mild to moderate dementia. The NYU team would contact the residents and family to see if they are interested in participating and then would conduct in-person and telephone interviews with the residents and their family members.
A nursing home liaison would only need to provide a list of residents and their representatives to the research team who will mail them a letter to recruit them. Nursing homes that participate in the pilot program will receive $1,500 and the liaison a $300 Visa gift card.
Family members who participate will receive a $300 Visa gift card. Facilities will also receive aggregate results and will remain unnamed in any reports or publications unless they give consent to be recognized. The NYU research team will also provide free in-services about caring for residents with dementia, upon request. If interested, contact lead researcher Jasmine Travers at
