The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a new Administrative Memo on December 20, 2024, which updates the Civil Money Penalty Reinvestment Program (CMPRP) application process. The memo discussed three primary changes:
- States must submit their CMPRP plans to the CMS Central Office CMPRP team by October 31st every year.
- Currently, states submit these plans to their CMS locations for review.
- States will now send CMPRP applications directly to the CMS Central Office CMPRP team for review and approval.
- Currently, the CMS locations review and approve/deny the applications.
- CMS is discontinuing the communication technology and visitation aid category, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic. This change is effective January 1, 2025.
CMS reports it is making these changes to “simplify workflows and improve effectiveness.” It states in the memo that it plans to update the CMPRP website with information on the updated process.
