Can You Stop the Outbreak? Quality Summit's Escape Room Will Put You to the Test

Events; Quality Summit; Infection Prevention/Control

Infection prevention and control became a critical focus during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the urgency hasn't faded. It remains one of the top citations in skilled nursing facilities. The challenge has always been making the training stick.

This year, Quality Summit is introducing something you haven't seen before: the Project Firstline NY Escape Room. Developed specifically for skilled nursing, assisted living, and post-acute care providers, teams race against the clock to solve puzzles, work through realistic workplace scenarios, and stop a fictional villain from spreading infection through the facility. Along the way, they tackle four core infection control concepts, not through slides or lectures, but through hands-on problem-solving that connects directly to the work they do every day.

A little friendly competition doesn't hurt either. Teams are timed, and the fastest group at the conference will be rewarded with bragging rights and T-shirts.

Those who have gone through it describe it as one of the most practical and confidence-building training experiences they have had. The lessons land differently when you are living them rather than just hearing about them. And because the format is designed to be replicated, you can bring it back and put it to work with your own team.

Led by Melony Spock, Tarrah Quinlan, RN, BSN, and Lisa Volk, RN, BPS, LNHA, NYS Health Facilities Association, NYS Center for Assisted Living, and Foundation for Quality Care.
