November brings two meaningful opportunities to recognize the people who enrich assisted living communities: Veterans Day and National Family Caregivers Month. As NCAL celebrates its 25th anniversary, we honor the veterans who served our nation and the family members and professional caregivers whose compassion and dedication support residents every day.
For 25 years, NCAL has supported assisted living providers through advocacy, education, and quality improvement. That commitment includes expanding veterans’ care options. Alongside coalition partners and provider members, NCAL advocated for legislation establishing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) assisted living pilot program, which will allow eligible veterans to receive VA-funded assisted living services. NCAL continues to work with the VA to support implementation and keep members informed, helping advance greater choice in how and where veterans receive care.
This November, we encourage communities to find ways to recognize veterans and their service, connect with family caregivers about the support they need, and thank staff for their contributions. As we reflect on NCAL’s first quarter century, we renew our commitment to a future where veterans have more care options to fit their unique needs and caregivers feel supported.
