OIG Rolls Out Compliance Program Guidelines

Compliance; Quality; Programs and Resources

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is overhauling their Compliance Program Guidance (CPG) as part of an initiative to modernize the accessibility and usability of their publicly available resources. OIG announced this initiative in April 2023, and subsequently published its General Compliance Program Guidance in November of 2023.

As part of this effort, the OIG plans to roll out industry-specific CPGs (ICPGs) for different types of providers, suppliers, and other participants in health care industry subsectors, such as nursing homes. The purpose of the ICPGs is to further advance providers’ voluntary compliance and quality initiatives. ICPGs will be tailored to fraud and abuse risk areas for each industry subsector and will address compliance measures that participants can take to reduce these risks.

The OIG expects to begin publishing ICPGs in Calendar Year 2024, beginning with Medicare Advantage and nursing facilities.
