This year is shaping up to be a key Midterm election year, meaning legislators will be looking for ways to connect with constituent groups. One of the best ways the Long Term Care profession can foster these connections is through facility and community tours. Tours provide members of Congress with valuable, firsthand insight into the care, services, and challenges providers face every day. They are a powerful method to showcase how essential skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities are to Americans in need of long term or post-acute care.
These tours allow lawmakers to meet with residents, speak with staff, and see the impact of quality care up close. They also provide the opportunity to discuss key issues such as workforce shortages, Medicare and Medicaid support, and affordability. These visits and discussions lead to more informed policymakers who better understand long term care and the profession’s needs.
We have had excellent participation so far this year in facility and community tours, and we’d like to thank all our members who have participated. Please share information about your tours with us! We encourage our AHCA/NCAL members to continue to invite lawmakers into your facilities and communities to engage in this powerful advocacy tool.
If you have any questions about facility/community tours or are interested in participating, the AHCA/NCAL Government Relations team would be more than happy to help coordinate the visit with you. Our team can help with any stage of tour coordination, from initial outreach to agenda planning and key issue discussions. Please contact Heather Posthumus or Ubaldo Martin for more information.
